As a freshly retired person, I thought keyboard playing might be a nice hobby. My musical background had peaked decades ago as a one-finger, top-note-hunting pianist, after which my 'musicality' went into a dormant state for long decades. Last March, I bought a MIDI keyboard and, knowing my limits, focused on monophonic instruments. After the initial joy, I realized my physical skills couldn't deliver big musical experiences. Then I found the free notation software MuseScore Studio, which relieved me of the constraints of my right hand—placing notes on the staff and listening back fooled me into thinking that maybe someone other than myself might actually enjoy the results! Having no formal music theory background, I simply use the treble clef across all staves to observe interval shapes more easily.
Suno typically follows my written notes for 40 to 60 seconds; after the bridge, it begins improvising based on the initial section, often echoing fragments of my original melody. For some pieces, I’ve also linked raw audio renders from my notation editor for comparison. A good melody needs a great arrangement to back it up, and robot-flat editor audio just can't deliver that. Suno acts as my arrangement team and backing band, adding the dynamic expressions, subtle human feel, and full accompaniment the raw score needs.
